Phases of a Butcher’s Hill Rehab – Part 2

BLANK CANVAS

Blank Canvas: Something with no content such that it can be easily filled with completely new things. myenglishpages.com

All I can do is take a deep breath when I see the work that lies ahead, and also the possibilities. Now that the house has been gutted to its bare essence, the homeowners, architect and contractor all have a blank canvasPhases of a Butcher’s Hill Rehab - Part 2 to bring together the various disciplines I alluded to in Part 1 of this series.

Phases of a Butcher’s Hill Rehab - Part 2This is where the art and the work start.  Choosing the right architect and contractor is the most important decision a homeowner can make when undertaking a rehab project of this magnitude.  It’s as important as choosing the right profession, the right school, or even the right spouse.  (Okay. Perhaps I went too far with the last one, but you get my point.)  The homeowners have chosen Val Coster of  Valeria Design Studio to mesh their ideas with possibilities.  For a contractor, they went with Stephen Blaes of Custom Build Maryland to implement Valeria’s design.  I might add, the homeowners’ style has been informed by extensive international travel, so any final design will have a pronounced homeowner signature.

I’ll be writing more about Valeria Design Studio and Custom Build Maryland in future posts, but for now you can see their work on their respective websites.

In Part 3 of this series, I’ll show work in progress.
